Make a plan for a great school year!
Good afternoon,
What a big transition week for so many of our families! Good luck to all of our older friends as they settle into schools, co-ops and homeschooling over the next few weeks. Thank you to everyone who joined us this summer!
Though we have a birthday in our family with a celebration Sunday afternoon, this Yearly Back to School PSA is good advice if you have children starting back to school this week…
Miss Olivia led our last two-day camp this week, and reports that our friends had a lot of fun! Alongside her work at Heart and Hands, she is preparing to transition back to school herself. In addition to her part-time coursework, she will be offering our afternoon drop-in care and afternoon enrichment classes on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday.
Miss Iris will continue offering Stay and Play on Thursdays this month with Olivia’s support, then both Olivia and Iris will welcome our T/W/Th Drop Off friends in September. Miss Iris will finish up her regular work with us in September, but you’ll still see her around! Leslie is excited to return home from her year of study and get back to work in late September. We are busy doing lots of planning and unpacking materials behind the scenes.
In Paris, the Olympics are officially finished, the Para-Olympics are next, and many small businesses have closed this week for 2-4 weeks of vacation. Paris is quite hot—air conditioning is rare in apartments and most businesses. Businesses that do have a/c often leave a door or windows open… The French are historically a bit suspicious of air conditioning from a health standpoint. Additionally, windows don’t have screens. Mosquitoes feast on any exposed skin at night. At Le Cordon Bleu, though air conditioned lightly, the big ovens and kitchen stoves negate any cooling. Who would think living in Paris is a lot like summer camping in Texas?

8/14 W Weekly Art and Handwork Studio 2:30-5:30pm (arrive by 3:15pm) We’ll organize our handwork materials, enjoy wet felting, and sketch/watercolor paint.
8/15 Th Stay and Play 9:30-11:30am—elementary children welcome! Snack: crepes w/ your favorite toppings: honey, jam, butter, powdered sugar w/ cinnamon 2 family spaces remain

T/W/Th 8:30-12:30pm September-May
Afternoon Drop-in Care
T/W/Th 12:30-2:30pm Begins 8/21. $25
pair with our T/W/Th Drop-off Class for children 1-5 years to create an 8:30am-2:30pm day
pair with our afternoon enrichment classes for children 4-11 years to create a 12:30-5:30pm day—great for homeschoolers and older preschoolers. This could be a time to work on outside assignments besides play in all of our great centers.
Afternoon Enrichment Classes
T/W/Th 2:30 (arrive by 3:15)-5:30pm
$500/semester (pro-rated based on enrollment date) $35/class to drop-in (more than one drop-in class may be needed to complete a current project).
Transcripts for each semester of the class will be provided when students attend for the semester.
